FIVB AND ISLAMIC SOLIDARITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION SIGN HISTORIC MOU DURING OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024

The MoU marks a significant step forward in the coordination and promotion of volleyball within both organisations’ communities

The FIVB is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), marking a significant step forward in the promotion of volleyball within the communities and members of both organisations.

This landmark agreement outlines the respective roles and responsibilities of both the FIVB and ISSA in the promotion of volleyball competitions at the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG). The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation, ensuring that the sport’s highest standards of integrity, fairness, and competitiveness are upheld during this event.

Under the terms of the MoU, the FIVB will appoint a Technical Delegate for each edition of the ISG, who will be experienced in the operational aspects of the competitions and will work in cooperation with the ISSA across the whole event.

Additionally, the MoU opens the door for further areas of collaboration between the FIVB and the ISSA. Both parties have expressed a mutual interest in exploring additional initiatives, including youth development programs, educational opportunities and promotional campaigns aimed at increasing the global reach and popularity of volleyball.

The MoU was signed by FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° and the Secretary General of ISSA, Nasser Majali at the South Paris Arena during the Olympic Games. FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo was also in attendance.

Commenting on the MoU, the FIVB President said: “We are honoured to partner with the ISSA to bring volleyball to the Islamic Solidarity Games and to solidify our collaboration for the years to come. The ISSA’s mission and values align closely with ours at FIVB and this agreement will no doubt benefit athletes and communities across the world. I am excited for what is to come!”

Secretary General of ISSA, Nasser Majali added: “It is an honour to have signed this MoU with the FIVB here in Paris today. The ISSA and FIVB are two organizations who share each other’s belief in the power of sport to have a positive impact in our respective communities, and we look forward to working with the FIVB to harness the power of volleyball across the Islamic Sports Movement.

“Following the signature of this MoU, the ISSA will also work together with the FIVB to deliver outstanding volleyball competitions at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh and beyond.”

The signing of this MoU is a significant milestone in the development of sport globally and both the FIVB and the ISSA are dedicated to working closely together to ensure that volleyball continues to thrive on the global stage.
