FIVB Secretary General Hugh McCutcheon met with national sports leaders and stakeholders from Fiji late last month to further the growth and development of volleyball in the country, in line with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032.
During his visit, McCutcheon held high-level discussions with Fiji Amateur Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) Chief Executive Officer Ms Vanessa Kilner, Fiji National Sports Commission (FNSC) Executive Chairman Mr Peter Mazey and representatives from the Fiji Volleyball Federation.
The meetings opened with a welcome address from Fiji Volleyball Federation President Mr Kemueli Naiqama, who highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration within the volleyball community. He also highlighted the National Federation’s current initiatives and projects, reflecting their vital role in driving the sport’s development in Fiji and across the Pacific region.
In his remarks, McCutcheon spoke extensively about the opportunities and priorities for volleyball in Fiji. He emphasised the country’s potential to host prestigious FIVB beach volleyball events, noting the dual benefits of elevating Fiji’s sporting profile and strengthening its tourism industry. He also shared updates on the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Fiji, a world-class training hub designed to provide athletes and coaches with the resources, expertise and an environment that will help athletes to thrive on the international stage.
McCutcheon also emphasised the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme, highlighting its impact and the opportunities it presents for volleyball in Fiji through delivering essential resources, funding and training. The sessions concluded with an interactive dialogue, where attendees engaged in meaningful discussions and shared perspectives on how best to collaborate to ensure the growth of volleyball in Fiji.
Through this visit, the FIVB reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Fiji as it strengthens its place in the Global Volleyball Movement, inspired by the FIVB’s motto: Together as One!
