A number of key topics were discussed at the annual Commission meeting
The FIVB Development Commission highlighted the incredible achievements of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes during its meeting this week.
The annual meeting was held in a hybrid format with Development Commission President Mushtaque Mohammed and Secretary Zdeslav Barac attending in-person from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne. They were joined by Volleyball Empowerment Commission President Vladimir Grbic and Secretary Ramon Suzara, who have their Commission meeting scheduled for the following day.
The Commission reviewed the highly successful FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes, highlighting the investment of 24 million CHF into 846 projects from 195 National Federations across all five Continental Confederations.
Moreover, it was confirmed that during the Paris 2024 Olympic cycle, 159 grants were approved by Olympic Solidarity (OS) for volleyball and beach volleyball with a total investment of over 4.3 million USD. The number of OS Team Support grants increased from 36 projects in the five-year Tokyo 2020 cycle to 63 projects in the three-year Paris 2024 cycle, with the investment for these grants also increasing by over 125%.
Additionally, the Commission discussed the FIVB Foundation, set to be launched in the first quarter of 2024, as well as the updates from the Zonal Associations. Important topics such as National Federation categorisation, coaches courses and development centres were also part of the Commission’s agenda.
Highlighting the work of the Commission meeting, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“We have supported National Federations across all five Continental Confederations in a very transparent way, with all the data available to anyone on the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Projects Dashboard. This tool is updated in real-time by our dedicated team and tracks exactly where and how we are investing in development. This is one of many innovations we use to remain credible and trustworthy.
“We are also closely tracking the return on investment, achievements of national team we invest in, and regularly publish case studies and updates from the successes of Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes on our website.”
The FIVB Commissions meetings are set to continue this week with the Volleyball Empowerment Commission scheduled for 30 January, Rules of the Game and Refereeing for 31 January, Legal for 1 February and Athletes’ Commission for 2 February.
