FIVB GAME TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION COMMISSION SETS STRATEGIC VISION FOR FUTURE

The Commission is committed to advancing the sport through innovation, technology and enhanced fan experiences

The Game Technology and Innovation Commission met on Friday to outline its key goals for 2025-2028, building on a landmark year for volleyball.

With a record-breaking Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2024 and an unforgettable Olympic Games Paris 2024, the Commission reinforced its commitment to advancing the game through innovation, technology and enhanced fan experiences.

FIVB President Fabio Azevedo opened the meeting by emphasising the Commission’s role in delivering the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032. As the sport continues to evolve in the digital era, the Commission is focused on three key areas: FIVB World Ranking; Technology and Integrity of the Game; and Knowledge Transfer and Sustainability.

The Commission highlighted the successful implementation of Bolt6’s automatic ball-tracking technology and Hawk-Eye’s video officiating system at Paris 2024, which were applauded for their precision and fairness. Looking ahead, the Commission explored ways to further enhance the officiating tools for competitions, ensuring that every FIVB event delivers a world-class level of accuracy.

The Game Technology and Innovation Commission President, Peter Sprenger, stated:

“The past year has demonstrated the incredible impact that technology can have on our sport, making it a real spectacle for all. In 2025 and beyond, our focus is not only on expanding these aspects but also on ensuring we remain proactive and at the forefront of global sports innovation. As a Commission, we are committed to engaging with the latest technological advancements to make volleyball more dynamic, engaging and accessible than ever before.”

With preparations underway for the VNL 2025, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball World Championships and other major events, the Game Technology and Innovation Commission will continue to ensure the development of the sport, where technology and fan experience are key priorities.
