FIVB HOSTS FIRST ZONAL ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTS SEMINAR DRIVEN BY FIVB STRATEGIC VISION 2032

Discussions focused on updated FIVB World Ranking system and expanded role of Zonal events

The FIVB proudly hosted the 2025 Zonal Association Presidents’ Seminar online on April 30, bringing together leaders from across the Global Volleyball Movement, including the Presidents of FIVB’s Zonal Associations.

FIVB’s Continental Confederation Presidents were also invited to attend as observers alongside the members of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development Commissions.

During the meeting, the attendees heard from several FIVB departments, including Empowerment & NF Relations, Volleyball, IT & Innovation and Legal. Central to the discussions was the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032 – an ambitious and forward-thinking roadmap designed to elevate the sport’s global presence over the next eight years.

The Strategic Vision 2032 is built on four foundational pillars: professionalism, integration, empowerment, and mass participation. These core values aim to enhance the sport’s accessibility and influence by uniting people, inspiring positive societal change and paving the way for a brighter future for volleyball worldwide.

A highlight of the seminar was the discussion of an expanded FIVB World Ranking system. In April 2025, the FIVB Board approved a proposal to broaden the ranking framework and strengthen the role of Continental Confederations and Zonal Associations.

Under the new system:

  • Each Zonal Association may include one Annual Zonal Event
  • Each Continental Confederation may include up to two Annual Continental Events in the World Ranking
  • Eligible competitions must feature a minimum of four senior national teams

This update reinforces the significance of regional competitions and enhances opportunities for national teams to gain exposure on the international stage. The FIVB World Ranking system remains a dynamic and credible measure of a team’s technical performance and development trajectory.

Speaking after the seminar, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, emphasised the importance of Zonal Associations in driving the growth of volleyball worldwide:

“Our mission is to empower every level of the Global Volleyball Movement, from the grassroots to the elite. Zonal Associations are an important part of making sure that happens, as they connect communities, help to develop talent and drive volleyball forward at the regional level. This seminar was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, reinforce our collaboration and ensure a strong global volleyball ecosystem. By including Zonal Associations’ events in the FIVB World Rankings, we are taking a significant step towards further professionalising our sport, and we are excited to move forward together.”
