During a visit to Palau for the Pacific Mini Games, the FIVB team, led by FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, engaged in a series of high-level meetings and activities focused on strengthening the development of volleyball and beach volleyball in the Pacific region.
In a meeting with the Palau Volleyball Federation (PVF) leadership, led by its President and FIVB Board of Administration member Hila Asanuma, discussions focused on the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme. The FIVB has supported the development of volleyball in the country through 11 projects across key areas including the provision of a volleyball floor, net systems, coaching support and beach volleyball equipment.
The FIVB and PVF also discussed the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Centre of Excellence at the current beach volleyball venue – highlighted as a model for legacy infrastructure that is aligned with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032. The Federation further expressed interest in hosting a future FIVB Board of Administration meeting, signalling its growing ambition and engagement in global volleyball affairs.
In a media interview with the Pacific Mini Games team, the FIVB President shared insights into the organisation of the volleyball and beach volleyball competitions, highlighting the impressive venue preparations and local enthusiasm. He outlined the FIVB’s long-term commitment to supporting the growth of the sport in Palau and across the Pacific region, emphasising the importance of sustainable development and local capacity building.
During a strategic meeting with the Oceania Volleyball Zonal Association (OVZA), along with National Federation leaders, Secretaries General and Presidents, the FIVB leadership presented the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032. The FIVB delegation also introduced various components of the Volleyball Empowerment programme, including Olympic Solidarity opportunities, the Centre of Excellence model, and details about the Youth Olympic Games qualification system.
Meanwhile, the OVZA presented its Strategic Foundation, which identified priorities such as improved governance and leadership, integration with global development programmes, athlete development, high-performance coaching and refereeing, expanded competition opportunities, and investment in education, marketing and partnership building. The shared commitment to a unified, high-impact future for volleyball in Oceania was strongly reaffirmed.
