The FIVB’s commitment to making volleyball more accessible and impactful remains stronger than ever
The FIVB’s Mass Participation and Snow Volleyball Commission met on Thursday, February 6, for its annual meeting, the first since the launch of the FIVB Volleyball Foundation in May 2024.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo began the discussions, highlighting the importance of the Commission’s role in fulfilling points nine and 15 of the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032: Knowledge Transfer and Sustainability, and Social Responsibility and Mass Participation – Volleyball Foundation.
The Commission then reflected on the Foundation’s rapid progress in using the global reach and power of volleyball to uplift communities, and looked ahead to the growing momentum of snow volleyball.
Since its launch, the Volleyball Foundation has already supported more than 11,000 lives through grassroots initiatives around the world. Additionally, the Volleyball Experiences at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 saw 300,000 participants engage in volleyball and beach volleyball, while supported projects in Kenya and India have provided opportunities for young players to engage with the sport.
The Commission also reflected on the Foundation’s recent trip to Assam, India, where the Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) Season 5 Finals showcased the sport’s power to unite and inspire. The event brought together 400 players, 150 coaches, 200 former state players and 300 volunteers, creating an unforgettable three-day celebration of volleyball.
With USD 1 million raised in 2024 alone, the Commission discussed the great potential for the Foundation to continue serving the world through volleyball.
The Mass Participation and Snow Volleyball Commission President, Peter Kleinmann, spoke about the Commission’s role in strengthening volleyball at every level:
“It has been brilliant to come together to reflect on what was a remarkable 2024 for the growth and development of volleyball. As President Azevedo has said, at its core, volleyball represents important values: collaboration, integration, peace and solidarity. These values must continue to permeate through everything that we do. Ultimately, we want to see more people playing, coaching and engaging with our sport, and we can help facilitate that. Let us look forward to an exciting year ahead.”
The Commission also looked forward to an exciting season for snow volleyball, with two major events on the horizon: the 2025 China Snow Volleyball Invitation from 20-28 February 2025 and the 2025 FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour in Türkiye from 11-14 March 2025. With its innovative set-up, snow volleyball continues to attract new audiences and expand the sport’s global reach.
The FIVB’s work continues later this week with the Beach Volleyball Commission meeting on 6 February, followed by the Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission on 7 February.
