FIVB President and IOC President enjoy electrifying Olympic beach volleyball action
FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° today proudly welcomed International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach to Shiokaze Park, the Tokyo 2020 beach volleyball venue, to witness some electrifying beach volleyball action and discuss the success of the sport worldwide.
The two leaders were also able to address a number of key topics such as the continual development of beach volleyball worldwide and the importance of gender equality in sport. In addition, they discussed the world-class quality of the temporary Olympic beach volleyball venue and the high-intensity action of the matches so far.
After enjoying an extremely competitive matchup between Italian pair Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai and Poland’s Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak, President Bach met Dutch beach volleyball player and FIVB Athletes’ Commission President Madelein Meppelink. He also met Brazilian beach volleyball player and Rio 2016 gold medallist Alison Cerutti.
Speaking after the meeting, the FIVB President said:
“It was an absolute pleasure to welcome the IOC President to the marvellous Shiokaze Park to enjoy the youthful and vibrant atmosphere of beach volleyball in the heart of Tokyo. I must commend President Bach for his strong leadership of the Olympic Movement, which was needed over the past year more than ever before.
“In addition to enjoying the incredible action, we were able to discuss a number of discussed a number of key topics, including the launch of Volleyball World and its rapid success, the vital importance of gender equality in sport and the continued development of beach volleyball worldwide.”
