Volleyball World recently announced the launch of the host city bidding process for the next two editions of the FIVB Men’s World Championship and FIVB Women’s World Championship in 2025 and 2027. Volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and it is incredibly popular sport today in Thailand and TVA President Mr Somporn disclosed earlier that the association has already presented its bid to host the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship in response to the amazing audience in the volleyball-loving country.

TVA has also planned to enter talks with other Southeast Asian countries including Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam to jointly bid to host the prestigious volleyball competition.

Tourism and Sports Minister Ms Sudawan

Apart from discussing the Thailand’s bid, the meeting between the Minister of Tourism and Sports, FIVB and Volleyball World was also aimed to seek support as well as assess the Thailand’s potential and its opportunities to gain benefits by hosting the World Championship. More importantly, it’s expected that hosting the world-class event can transfer this kind of asset to international trusts in the country in terms of the sports.

Luis Alexandre

Starting with the year 2025, the World Championship will be expanded to include 32 teams, increasing from 24 teams, while the tournament will henceforth also be held biannually instead of quadrennially. With a large number of 32 qualified teams participating in the World Championship, Thailand alone cannot host the world’s biggest and most prestigious competition and as a result, co-hosting the World Championship is another option which can help share related risks and benefits, strengthen cordial ties among the co-host nations and promote the sport in Southeast Asia.

Guido Betti

Co-hosting the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship is possible for Southeast Asia because the region is one of the largest and fastest-growing markets for volleyball in Asia, driven by the growing popularity of the sport in those countries including Thailand, which saw the growth of the volleyball market supported by the increasing number of volleyball and beach volleyball tournaments being organized in the country.

Kiattipong

Southeast Asian countries and Thailand in particular have already hosted several major volleyball events including the Volleyball Nations League, FIVB Age Group World Championships and the Asian Volleyball Championships.
