FIVB VOLLEYBALL EMPOWERMENT COMMISSION PREPARES FOR INNOVATIVE AND IMPACTFUL FUTURE

FIVB President highlights Strategic Vision 2032 as driving force behind global volleyball growth

The FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Commission convened its annual meeting on Wednesday, February 5 in a hybrid format, celebrating the remarkable progress of its 2024 initiatives and setting an innovative course for 2025. 

The meeting highlighted the transformative impact of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes, with inspiring success stories shared amongst members. The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating the growth of the sport at both grassroots and elite levels, aligning with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032. 

In his opening address, President Fabio Azevedo outlined the core of the FIVB’s Strategic Vision 2032. “Together as One” and highlighted three pillars crucial to the Commission’s mission. These were Volleyball Empowerment 2.0, International Centres of Excellence and National Federations Categorisation and Membership. All these pillars are aimed at positively impacting National Federations, Zonal Associations and Continental Confederations, helping their events to become more relevant and sustainable.  

The Volleyball Empowerment Commission President, Glenn Quinlan, welcomed both returning and new members and highlighted the Commission’s role in shaping the future of the sport. He stated:

“Empowerment is more than just providing resources and funding – it is about creating opportunities at all levels, ensuring sustainable operations across the entire Global Volleyball Movement and inspiring both current and future generations to engage in our sport. Our mission is crucial to ensuring every nation in our ecosystem has the chance to excel.” 

The meeting covered a range of additional initiatives, including Zonal Associations empowerment, Olympic Solidarity support, collaborations with National Federations and relevant working groups. 

Reflecting on the initiatives of 2024, it was announced that since the inception of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programme in 2017, 1,209 projects across 201 National Federations have been approved – representing an investment of USD 41.5 million. Additionally, 140 coach support projects are currently underway involving over 240 coaches worldwide.

The FIVB Commissions meetings scheduled for later this week are the Mass Participation and Snow Volleyball Commission on 5 February, Beach Volleyball Commission on 6 February and Rules of the Games and Refereeing Commission on 7 February.
