GENERAL TECHNICAL MEETING HELD TO CONFIRM ALL IS SET FOR FIRST ASIAN WOMEN’S U16 CHAMPIONSHIP

Hangzhou, China, June 30, 2023 – The General Technical Meeting of Exciting Hangzhou 2023 1st Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball Championship was held here at the Conference Hall of Asian Games Village to finally confirm matters of competition, refereeing, press, VIS, etc are set for the opening of the competition on Saturday morning.

Control Committee Chairman Mr Cai Yi presided over the meeting, which saw representatives including head coaches from Australia, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Japan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Hong Kong China, Macao China, Uzbekistan and host China, as well as all international referees and local organizing committee members in attendance.

          

In his opening speech, Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, AVC Executive Director and AVC Coordinator for this championship, said, “On behalf of AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the contribution from the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee and China Volleyball Association for hosting the Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball Championship, which is the first edition of this event and also the qualification tournament for next year’s FIVB Women’s U17 Volleyball Championship. Especially this is the test event for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. We, all Control Committee here and also all the participating teams, appreciated the very kind hospitality from the organizers and hope that we will have a pleasant stay here in Hangzhou.” He also mentioned the NOC reasons as the main cause of the absence of team India.

    

Mr Zhong Hangwei, Vice Director of Asian Games Village, also attended the meeting and addressed his welcoming speech on behalf of the Asian Games Organizing Committee and Asian Games Village. He also introduced everyone to the preparation of each venue and facilities and operations of Asian Games Village. Finally, he wished everyone a good stay in Hangzhou and a complete success of the event.

      

After that, Technical Delegate Dr Eom Han-Joo from Korea reported on the eligibility of players, dress uniformity for officials on bench, team movements upon completion of the match as well as other important matters including uniform color assignment, ID cards on Jury table, places for team video camera and statisticians and team spectator seats. He also explained that AVC decided to launch the 1st edition of U16 Championships in accordance with the FIVB new competition system and 3 quotas from the championship will qualify for the the next year’s FIVB Volleyball Women’s U17 World Championship.

    

Referee Delegate Mr Wang Ning from China explained about the rules of the game to be applied for use in this championship, match protocol, and the Video Challenge System, while Press Delegate Mr Wang Liang informed about the press matters. He asked for teams’ kind cooperation for interviews at the mixed zone and for post-match press conferences as there will be at least one press conference scheduled at each venue since it is a test for Asian Games. He also introduced AVC social media platforms and asked each team to pay attention to their behaviour on court due to the live streaming on AVC website.

     

VIS delegate Mr Cai Yong from China explained that Bulletin 1 will be sent to each team after some modification and asked each team to repeatedly confirm the email addresses as all the daily bulletins will be sent to each team via emails.

    

Mr Cai Yi closed the General Technical Meeting with thanks again to the teams and organizers for their support and cooperation.

    

Earlier on Friday, the international referees and national technical officials had their referee theory clinic and practice at Linping Sports Centre Gymnasium to make their final preparation and rehearsal for officiating the championship.

    

In terms of the competition, the pool round-robin preliminaries will be held from July 1 to 3, with the first two matches to kick off simultaneously between Japan and Australia, Thailand and Hong Kong, China at 10:30 on Saturday morning. Hosts China will face Mongolia at 19:30 following the opening ceremony.
