The Gold Coast will remain the home of Volleyslam until 2025, as Volleyball Australia today announces a three-year extension of its current partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and Major Events Gold Coast to keep the prestigious beach volleyball festival on Coolangatta Beach.
With around 450 teams expected for this year’s event, VolleySlam is the largest beach event on Volleyball Australia’s calendar and a celebration of the sport across all levels, from elite to grassroots.
In its current format, it brings together three marquee events, including the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT) Finals, and the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships, alongside the Australian Beach Volleyball Schools’ Cup, a newly developed competition which debuted last year to an extremely positive reception from the sporting school community.
This year’s edition will be even more action packed, as it also includes the FIVB Beach Pro Tour Futures event, while the ABVT competition doubled as the 2022 Australian Beach Volleyball Championships, after inclement weather conditions forced the rescheduling of the event from Manly Beach.
Volleyball Australia CEO, Andrew Dee, said that with the Gold Coast set to host the beach volleyball competition for the 2032 Olympic Games, Volleyball Australia is excited to build on the existing relationship with Coolangatta Beach to ensure the continuity and growth of one of VA’s most prestigious events.
“VolleySlam is an amazing opportunity to bring our beach volleyball community together in what is an iconic location for Australia’s beach volleyball.
“Crucially this event it’s all about showcasing and celebrating our best athletes as well as unearthing the next generation of talent, who will go on to represent Australia on the world stage.
“As we continue to focus on providing our young athletes with the best opportunities to grow and develop their potential, we are delighted that Queensland will continue to host the event as part of the ‘green and gold’ runway to Brisbane 2032, and we’d like to thank the Queensland Government, Tourism and Event Queensland, Major Events Gold Coast and the City of Gold Coast for their collaboration and support,” he said.
Queensland Tourism and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe welcomed Volleyball Australia’s commitment to the Gold Coast.
“The world-famous Gold Coast is Australia’s home of beach volleyball and the 2032 Olympic Games’ competition host,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“Australian Volleyball’s decision to bring three more years of Volleyslam to the Gold Coast is more great news for competitors, spectators and tourism operators.
“Volleyslam is where Gold Coast beach volleyball fans and visitors can witness the very best emerging junior and elite athletes in action.
“This event is a prominent entry on our It’s Live! in Queensland calendar and Volleyslam will contribute millions of dollars to the Gold Coast visitor economy with many competitors and their families staying on for a holiday getaway.”

Volleyslam 2022 will run 25 March – 4 April, with the Australian Championships wrapping up on Sunday 27th.
