Zhangjiagang, China, July 15, 2019 – Chairman of AVC Eastern Zone and Control Committee Mr. Cai Yi presided over the General Technical Meeting at Jinling Huafang International Hotel, with all referees, coaches and team officials from 6 participating teams of AVC Eastern Zone in attendance.
Following the welcome speech from Mr. Jin Yong, Deputy Director of Zhangjiagang Culture, Sports, Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau and Secretary General of Organizing Committee, Technical Delegate Dr Eom Hanjoo informed all participating teams of technical matters including eligibility of players and officials (team composition), dressing uniformity for officials on the bench, while Referee Delegate Mr Chang Chi Jong reported on the Rules of the Game to be applied, discipline on the court and match protocol. Press Delegate Mr Wang Liang informed each of the press interview at the mixed zone and also the team photo issue before their first match.
Mr. Li Jin, Director of Zhangjiagang Sports Center and Deputy Secretary General of Organizing Committee, introduced the preparation work at the meeting, including the details of meals and accommodation, transportation, venue, medical service, etc, while all the teams are satisfied with the arrangement.
Mr. Cai Yi concluded the meeting with thanks to 6 teams for their active participation and to the organisers Jiangsu Sports Competition Administrative Center and Zhangjiagang Sports Bureau for their support to AVC Eastern Zone.
After the meeting, the welcome banquet was held with Mr Sun Jianzhong, Director of Zhangjiagang Culture, Sports, Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau addressing the welcome speech while team officials, Control Committee members and all referees enjoyed the dinner.
The AVC Eastern Zone Men’s Volleyball Championship is a biennial competition of AVC Eastern Zone. This year, teams of Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, Macau China, Korea, DPR Korea and hosts China attend the championship, which will apply round robin system. It is for the first time that Zhangjiagang hosts the men’s championship since the city has successfully organized the women’s championship in 2016 and 2018. In the last edition held in Ulaanbaatar of Mongolia in 2017, Japan defended the title after edging out Chinese Taipei 3-1 (31-29, 16-25, 25-17, 27-25) in the final showdown, while Korea dashed hopes of the host nation to land the podium after a straight set (25-19, 25-20, 25-15) win in the bronze medal match.
Zhangjiagang is China’s National Health City, National Eco City and National Civilized City. It was recognized as International Garden City by UNEP in 2005 and was awarded the UN Habitat Scroll of Honor in 2008. Besides, Zhangjiagang is a city fond of volleyball. Many volleyball events, like National volleyball Grand Prix and International Volleyball Challenge, have been held in Zhangjiagang.
