Her appointment is expected to elevate the profile of volleyball in Japan ahead of a busy 2023 calendar
The Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) recently named Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado as its Honorary President.
Her appointment is expected to elevate the profile of volleyball in Japan ahead of a busy 2023 calendar that will see the Asian country host a FIVB Road to Paris Volleyball Qualifier where it will welcome the volleyball elite as men’s and women’s teams to not only battle for a place at the 2024 Olympics in Paris – but also for an event which is traditionally known as the World Cup in Japan. Additionally, Japan will stage men’s and women’s pools of the Volleyball Nations League.
JVA President Shunichi Kawai said:
“As we look forward to celebrating our 100th anniversary in February 2027, we are truly honoured to have Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, who has a deep knowledge of sports in general, including volleyball, assume the position of honorary president newly established. In the spring of this year, the Volleyball Nations League will be held in Nagoya, and in the fall, the FIVB Road to Paris Olympic Volleyball Qualifier will be held in Tokyo.
“With the help of volleyball, we will strive to realise a better society through the popularisation and promotion of volleyball.”
