Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, June 24, 2023 – Host team Indonesia punched in their ticket for the final showdown of the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Women after defeating Chinese Taipei in the decider 3-2 (22-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12).
Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi’s 39-point mega performance brought the crowd at the Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik Gymnasium to cheers and to near tears with victory at home.
The host team had a sluggish start, committing unlikely errors as they needed to confront service pressure from their opponents.
Apart from performing well at the service line, Chinese Taipei tried to outrun the opponents, executing their counter-attack with skilled hitters taking charge. Chang Li-Wen and Wu Fang-Yu provided firepower from both the flanks and backrow. Moreover, they covered the backcourt and managed really well with the passing lanes.
Indonesia then kept an eye on the hitters and started to tighten their blocks. As they improved their passing, they enabled good rhythm and momentum from Megawati and Mediol Stiovanny Yoku.
Chinese Taipei still kept a strong and valid stake during the decider, but Indonesia had other things in mind as they raced with momentum toward victory in such a thriller of a five-setter.
Indonesia now await their match-up in the finale set on Sunday, 19:00. Chinese Taipei will settle for the battle for third place at 16:30. All times local.
