HOSTS THAILAND CLAIM DOUBLE GOLD AT SAVA U21 BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ROI ET

Roi Et, Thailand, June 15, 2025 – Hosts Thailand dominated the SAVA (Southeast Asia Volleyball Association) U21 Beach Volleyball Championships 2025 with an impressive clean sweep of both men’s and women’s titles at the Nong Ya Ma Community School competition venue on Sunday.

The intense three-day tournament, held from June 13 to 15, concluded with Thailand achieving a remarkable “full sweep” in the women’s competition and securing a one-two finish in the men’s event.

In the women’s final, top seeds Varagkhana Sogalee and Samitta Simarongnam, who had earlier overwhelmed Malaysia’s third-seeded duo Nur Auni Maisarah Shamsulrizal and Iskandar Noor Aishah 2-0 (21-9, 21-11) in a completely one-sided semifinal, faced a tough battle against fellow Thais Somruedee Koedkaew and Suchipha Rittila.

In a thrilling all-Thais showdown, Varagkhana and Samitta ultimately prevailed 2-0 (21-18, 24-22) to claim the gold medal.

Eighth seeds Ainthira Bunpasong and Natthamon Meebun, who fell to compatriots Somruedee and Suchipha in straight sets (18-21, 14-21) in the semifinals, fought back valiantly to capture the bronze medal with a come-from-behind 2-1 (10-21, 21-15, 15-12) win over Malaysia’s Auni and Aishah in a grueling 49-minute third-place playoff.

In the men’s event, Thailand’s top seeds Wichaya Wisetkan and Paphawin Manyahong reigned supreme, claiming five straight wins without dropping a set throughout the competition.

After brushing aside 12th-seeded compatriots Rueangrit Wiromrat and Chaiwat Muadthong 2-0 (21-11, 21-15) in the semifinals, Wichaya and Paphawin survived a tightly contested opening set before overcoming 10th-seeded Saiphirun Ruairung and Suranath Rattanapolsaen 2-0 (26-24, 21-17) in yet another all-Thais final.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s third-seeded pair Phu Tho Bao and Nguyen Hoang Long, who lost to Saiphirun and Suranath 1-2 (21-15, 19-21, 13-15) in the semifinals, dashed Thailand’s hopes of a podium sweep by edging past Rueangrit and Chaiwat in a dramatic tie-breaker 2-1 (20-22, 21-19, 17-15) to take the bronze medal.

Thailand Volleyball Association President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang presided over the awards presentation and closing ceremony on Sunday evening.

Also attending were Mr Songsak Chareonpong, Chairman of the TVA Referee Committee, former chairman of the AVC Referee Committee and member of the FIVB Rules of the Game & Refereeing Commission, along with Roi Et Mayor Mr Banjong Kositjiranun. They presented trophies and medals to the medalists in both categories.

Organized by the Southeast Asia Volleyball Association (SAVA) in collaboration with the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and Roi Et Province, the three-day competition provided a valuable platform for the region’s emerging talents to sharpen their skills ahead of the 6th Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships, which will take place at the same venue from June 18 to 21.

A total of 20 teams, including 12 men’s pairs from six countries that completed their SAVA U21 campaigns, are expected to continue their challenge in the upcoming continental event just two days away.
