Bangkok, Thailand, December 19, 2022 – The 25th National U21 Volleyball Championship, organised by the Madhya Pradesh Amateur Volleyball Association and sanctioned by the Volleyball Federation of India, are now under way at Panna Madhya Pradesh, India, with a number of 52 teams comprising 28 men’s and 24 women’s sides strutting their stuff.

With the help of Madhya Pradesh Government, the Madhya Pradesh Amateur Volleyball Association is organising the championship between December 16 and 22, 2022, with active participation of approximately 1,000 players and officials.

The tournament serves as the selection trials for the men’s players, as the well-qualified players from this championship will make the cut for the Indian U21 squad for the 2023 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship. India finished second to eventual winners Iran in the 2022 Asian Men’s U20 Championship in Riffa, Bahrain, but both teams qualified for the next year’s U21 World Championship.

Shri. Gireesh Goutham Speaker of Madhya Pradesh Government, Shri. Bijendra Pratap singh Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Shri. Vishnu Dutt Sharma Member of Parliament and State President of Bharatiya Janata Party jointly presided over the opening of the championship.

Also in attendance to witness action-packed matches were Volleyball Federation of India President Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder KIIT & KISS University, Mr Anil Chaudhary, VFI Secretary General, Mr Ramavtar Singh Jakhar, Executive Zonal Vice President representing AVC Central Zone, himself AVC Board of Administration Member and AVC Finance Committee Member.

All the arrangements to conduct this championship ranging from the facilities of the playing court and equipment’s, boarding and lodging for players and officials, transportation for the officials and  teams have been made by the Madhya Pradesh Amateur Volleyball Association President Mr Rudhra Pratap Singh, MLA, Former Member of Parliament Government of India, General Secretary, Shri Hari Singh Chauhan and Shravan Misra coordinator of this championship.

All members of Volleyball Federation of India have taken keen interest to conduct this championship in a great manner.

At conclusion of the championship, the selected men’s players will attend the National Coaching Camp from February 2023 ahead of their participation in the Men’s U21 World Championship.  The U19 players will also be selected from this championship to participate in the FIVB Boys’ U19 Volleyball Championship, also due to be held in 2023. India picked up bronze medal in the Asian Men’s U18 Championship in Tehran, Iran in August to become the top four teams from Asia to be eligible for the next year’s World Championship.
