Urmia, Iran, August 24, 2023 – Indonesia survived a scare from India in the opening set to pull off sensational straight-set 31-29, 25-18, 25-12 win against the spirited rivals in their crucial match for ranking 7-12 in the 22nd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at Al-Ghadir Hall 1 on Thursday.
Indonesia and India played neck and neck in the opening set, but the former played more consistently with devastating attacks from Halim Farhan to take the closely-contested set 31-29.
Hoping for a better performance, India tried to improve their tempo and hit back in the second set, but Indonesia continued their onslaughts to snare the thrilling set 25-18.
Conceding two sets in a row, the Indians gave it all out in the third set. Still, their great determination did not bear fruits. The Indonesians cruised on to capture the one-sided set set 25-12 and match.
Halim Farhan topscored with 19 points for Indonesia. Ashwal Rai chipped in with 10 points for India, while Vinit Kumar contributed 8 points.
