INDONESIA QUALIFY FOR 2ND ASIAN MEN’S U16 CHAMPIONSHIP

Jakarta, Indonesia, May 25, 2025 – Indonesia has officially qualified for the 2nd Asian Men’s U16 Volleyball Championship after a hard-fought 3-2 (24-26, 25-10, 22-25, 25-22, 15-8) victory over Malaysia in the Southeast Asian Qualifier at the Jenderal Kunarto Volleyball Training Center in Sentul, Bogor, on Sunday.

With the dramatic comeback win, Indonesia earned a place in the upcoming championship, which will take place in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, from July 12 to 19, 2025. The tournament will serve as the Asian qualification pathway for the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship, with the top three teams earning qualification.

Indonesia’s Raka led all scorers with an impressive 28 points, while teammates Bayu and Syafril contributed with 22 and 19 points respectively. Jason was the top performer for his team, contributing 21 points on the Malaysia’s losing effort.

“We were confident from the beginning, but I’m not satisfied with the result,” said Indonesia head coach Indra Wahyudi. “A 3-2 win is not what we aimed for. We should have closed the match more decisively.”

Despite the loss, Malaysian head coach Mohd Halim Bin A Samad remained composed. “The home crowd didn’t affect us. We’re used to that kind of atmosphere,” he commented. “What cost us the match were the unforced errors, particularly in the fifth set.”
