Tehran, Iran, August 16, 2022 – Iran, hosts and bronze medallists at the last year’s U19 World Championship, trounced China 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 to hand the Chinese side first loss at the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Federation Hall on Tuesday.
Both teams had no match on the opening day and on the very first match on Tuesday, both sides similarly came up at full strength to bag the first victory.
Backed by over 500 spectators at the venue, Iran started strongly to take the first set 25-21. Showcasing their exceptional attacks and solid blocks, Iran held firm to win the next two sets 25-17, 25-22, leaving home fans in delight with their team’s success.
Captain Mohammad Mani Alikhani chipped in with 14 points for Iran, while Gao Yaning and Li Duo scored 8 points apiece for China.
Iran will next play Kuwait on Wednesday in their second preliminary Pool A clash, while China will go up against Chinese Taipei.
Reza Vakili, head coach of Iran, said, “Before the start of these game, we had two friendly games with China and we beat them all. We worked very well to build this age group. We were thinking not only for this event but also the future of Iran volleyball as these players are to serve the senior level in the future”.
