Kathmandu, Nepal, August 4, 2024 – On the fourth day of pool preliminaries of the CAVA Women’s Nations League, the highlight match between Nepal and Iran captivated fans with its breathtaking rallies and intense gameplay which concluded with Iran narrowly defeating the host side in a closely-contested rivalry, ending 3-2 (25-16, 16-25, 25-13, 15-25, 15-13).
Over 3,000 fans attended the match, cheering passionately for their home team. Distinguished guests included Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Teju Lal Chaudhari, Member of Parliament and former Defense Minister Mr. Purna Bahadur Khadka, MP Mr. DP Aryal, Laxmi Tiwari, Lil Bahadur Thapa, former Minister Ram Kumari Jhakri, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Mr. Tanka Lal Ghising, and retired IG of Armed Police Force Mr. Durja Kumar Rai. Former Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Purna Bahadur Khadka, Hon. Jeevan Pariyar, sponsors, filmmakers, artists, and former international men and women players also attended the match in the VIP lounge.
In the other match of the day, Sri Lanka defeated Maldives 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-16), leaving the Maldives winless in the tournament.
The match schedule for August 5 will feature India against Sri Lanka at 1:00 pm local time, followed by Nepal against Maldives at 3:15pm on the final day of pool preliminaries.
The Nepal Volleyball Association had invited all teams to a Gala Dinner Ceremony at 7:00pm. Mr Mohammed Latheef from Maldives, President of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and the Volleyball Association of Maldives, is on his way to Nepal on Monday to join the CAVA Women’s Nations League.
