Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 8, 2022 – Formidable Japan grabbed three successive victories in the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship after demolishing Chinese Taipei in thrilling three-setter 25-22, 25-12, 25-16 at Nakhon Pathom Sports Center Gymnasium on Wednesday.
After two straight-set wins in succession against China and India the previous two days, Japan remained in aggressive form in this tough-looking match against Chinese Taipei.
Japan, reigning and eight-time champions, were working in complete harmony, penetrating the rivals’ defence with aggressive attacks and stuff blocks to claim the first two sets 25-22, 25-12.
Chinese Taipei hit back bravely to revive their fortunes in the third set, but the Japanese defence still proved impenetrable, allowing the rivals scoring difficulties. Though the rivals produced back-to-back attacks, the well-established Japanese side held firm and fought back hard to eventually capture the set 25-16 for sensational 3-0 win.
Sae Omori was the Japan’s star in this match with huge 26 points, while Lu Chia-Wen led Chinese Taipei with 6 points.
“Chinese Taipei were good on their reception and they troubled us in some moments but we could manage to win. Despite the win, I am not satisfied with my performance as I made some mistakes and I should have done better,” Japan’s Kokomi Kawamata said after the match.
