Manama, Bahrain, July 30, 2024 – Defending champions Japan secured the top spot in Pool B with a resounding 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) victory against Chinese Taipei on Tuesday in the 15th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Hall C here.
The Japanese had all systems going and asserted themselves in the battle for group supremacy. Spearheaded by the strong play of Karen Masajedi, Yuki Kashiwazaki and Sawa Maeda, they rolled to a third straight victory while sending out a stern warning to other title contenders
Masajedi had 13 points for Japan, while Kashiwazaki added 12 and Maeda 11. Tsai Chen-Yu scored nine points for Chinese Taipei, which suffered their first defeat in this topflight championship.
After the match, Japan’s Teruki Ishida said that he was pleased with his team’s three-set sweep, which gave them more time for recovery and to begin their preparations for the next stage.
He added that they are yet to reach the level they want to be in order to become the champions, and are taking things game by game.
Both Japan and Chinese Taipei move on to the Top Eight where they will compete in Pool F.
