NEW ZEALAND
The 2025 GJ Gardner Homes NZ Beach Tour presented by Tip Top, New Zealand’s national beach volleyball tour, visited Auckland last week. Two foreign duos met in the women’s gold medal showdown on Sunday. Second-seeded Non Matsumoto & Ren Matsumoto of Japan (pictured in the main photo; credits: volleyballnz.org.nz) triumphed as tournament winners after a 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) sweep of the final against Vanuatu’s Linline Matauatu & Majabelle Lawac, seeded fourth.
The bronze went to another foreign pair. USA’s Alaina Chacon & Morgan Chacon, seeded third, achieved a 2-0 (21-17, 21-11) victory over the mixed team of New Zealand’s Katie Sadlier and Australia’s Kayla Mears.
Another mixed pairing, that of New Zealander Ben O’Dea and Englishman Niko Gleed, claimed the men’s gold for the second time on the tour this season. In the final, the top-seeded duo came back from a set down to celebrate a 2-1 (11-21, 21-17, 15-11) victory over second-seeded John McManaway & Thomas Hartles.
In the bronze medal match, James Sadlier & Campbell Forsyth produced a tight 2-0 (23-21, 21-19) upset of the third-seeded mixed team of Brazilian star Andre Stein and New Zealand’s Juraj Krajci.
