Dushanbe, Tajikistan, July 3, 2025 – Day 3 of the CAVA Girls’ U16 Volleyball Championship 2025 in Dushanbe delivered a captivating day of action, showcasing the region’s emerging volleyball talents and intense team rivalries.
Held at the Olympic Palace, the day’s fixtures featured Kazakhstan facing Uzbekistan in the afternoon, followed by a gripping five-set duel between host nation Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Kazakhstan continued their dominant campaign with a decisive straight-set victory over Uzbekistan. From the outset, the Kazakh team demonstrated superior court control and tactical execution. The first set saw both teams exchange early blows, but Kazakhstan pulled ahead mid-set with consistent service pressure and efficient attacking patterns, closing it 25-20.
In the second set, Kazakhstan built an early lead, and despite Uzbekistan’s spirited efforts, particularly through Farangiz Yunusova and Saodat Egamberdieva, they could not bridge the gap. Kazakhstan’s discipline and tight formation earned them a 25-17 win in the second set.
The third set further underlined Kazakhstan’s superiority as they controlled the tempo from start to finish, sealing the match 25-14.
The victory extended Kazakhstan’s undefeated run to three matches, all in straight sets, firmly placing them at the top of the standings with maximum points and zero sets dropped.
The evening match brought an electric atmosphere as the home team Tajikistan clashed with Kyrgyzstan in a rollercoaster contest that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Kyrgyzstan opened with a commanding 25-13 win in the first set, showing strength at the net and capitalizing on Tajikistan’s nervous start. But the hosts responded with resilience, fueled by the home crowd’s support. Tajikistan’s improved defense and clever attacks through Hanifa Israilova and Farzona Abdulobekova helped them edge the second set 25-23.
Riding that momentum, the hosts captured the third set 25-22, taking a 2-1 lead and igniting hopes of a home victory. However, Kyrgyzstan, refusing to go down without a fight, regrouped and responded in the fourth set with renewed energy and precision. Their efforts were rewarded with a 25-16 win, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, Kyrgyzstan took early control with aggressive serving and smart rotations. Tajikistan fought valiantly, but a few costly errors and Kyrgyzstan’s consistency allowed the visitors to close the set 15-9, winning the match 3-2 after two hours and five minutes of thrilling volleyball.
Despite the loss, Tajikistan earned their first point of the tournament by taking the match to five sets. Kyrgyzstan, with their first win, moved to third place in the standings, overtaking Tajikistan.
As the championship heads into its final phase after a scheduled rest day, Kazakhstan sit comfortably at the top with three wins and nine points, followed by Uzbekistan with six points. Kyrgyzstan hold two points, while the host nation, Tajikistan, remain at the bottom with one.
With just one matchday remaining, all eyes are now on the remaining fixtures, particularly the Uzbekistan vs Kyrgyzstan clash, which may determine the final medal placements. The excitement and spirit of the young athletes continue to light up Dushanbe, promising more drama and passion in the days to come.
