Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 24, 2024 – The Preliminary Round of 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship concluded on Tuesday with the participating club teams from Kazakhstan, hosts Thailand, Japan and Vietnam picking up victories against respective opponents at Chartchai Hall.
Pool A
Kazakhstan’s Kuanysh VC maintained an immaculate card in Pool A after defeating Hong Kong, China’s Kwai Tsing in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-18). The Kazakh club utilized a different set of starters on the floor, combining seasoned players with younger ones, which worked for the team’s successful run. Kwai Tsing also made the match memorable, as they managed to keep the scores close against a much taller squad.
Hosts Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC settled in Pool A’s second place after defeating Vietnam’s Duc Giang Chemical 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16). Katarina Pilepic mounted a match-high 24 points from 18 attacks and six kill blocks for the home team’s second win in the 2024 edition.
Pool B
Japan’s NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki climbed to the top of Pool B after a sweep of the Philippines’ Monolith Sky Risers 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-18). The Japan club’s prolific hitter Yoshino Sato bested all scorers with 18 points, followed by middle blocker Haruyo Shimamura, who scored 12 points. The Philippines’ Alyssa Jae Solomon likewise scored 12 points in the defeat.
Vietnam’s LPBank Ninh Binh took the second place in Pool B as confirmed via their 3-1 win (25-16, 25-16, 17-25, 25-19) over Iran’s Saipa Club. Captain Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen topped the scoring charts, amassing 27 points for the team’s second victory in the competition.
Teams will now get to enjoy a break on Wednesday, as matches resume on Thursday for the quarterfinals. The semifinals will be held on Friday, with the finals to be played on Saturday (5th-8th places) and Sunday (medal matches).
The two highest-ranked teams in the Asian meet will join other club selections from CAVB, CEV, CSV and host China to compete in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, scheduled in December 2024.
