The Malian opposite goes 50+ twice in the same week

As if scoring 54 points on Monday was not enough for Noumory Keita, he did even better on Friday, hammering out another 56. Uijeongbu KB Insurance Stars’ 20-year-old Malian opposite not only improved on his best tally in a single South Korean V-League game, but did so in just four sets of play.
Spearheaded by Keita, second-placed KB Stars battled it out for a hard-earned 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 32-34, 32-30) away victory over Ansan OK Financial Group OKman to up their record to 61 points (19 wins, 14 losses), just two short of leaders Incheon Korean Air Jumbos (21, 12), and secure their spot in the playoffs. In the two hours and 36 minutes of play time, the 2.06m-tall Malian put away 51 spikes at a 64% success rate. He added four aces and a kill block towards a fantastic total of 56 points.
Keita had reached his previous high of 54 points twice since he joined the club from Uijeongbu in 2020. On both occasions, however, he did so in five-set matches. On Friday in Ansan, he averaged 14 points per set.
The Malian scoring machine has already piled up 1,203 points since the start of the V-League season, or an average of 36.45 per match. He tops the league’s best scorers chart, 288 points clear of second-placed American Kyle Russell of Samsung Bluefangs Daejeon. Cuban international Leonardo Leyva of OK Financial Group is third on 870 points.

Leyva was his team’s best scorer in Friday’s loss to KB Stars. He delivered 26 kills at a 51% success rate in attack, three aces and a stuff block towards a match tally of 30 points. The team from Ansan are fifth in the current standings on 41 points and a 16-17 win-loss record.
