The Korean superstar’s big heart for fans makes her the gold standard
Kim Yeon Koung proved herself to be one of the biggest Korean sports stars as many supporters attended her first-ever fan meeting called Bakery YoungKoungDang last May 20.
Kim was so moved that she wrote a heartwarming message on social media to her fans, paying tribute to their support throughout her long and successful career.

“My volleyball career has lasted this long because of the infinite love of my fans. Grateful that I had the chance this year to give my fans a little treat. This was a meaningful occasion to give that love back. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who attended,” Kim wrote on Instagram.
The one in a billion star interacted with her fans, even danced and sang a song for them. At some point in the program of the fan meeting, the superstar held back tears, probably recognising how her career unfolded and succeeded before the eyes of the very same people sitting in the auditorium.

In Korea, Kim has the same recognition and attention given to K-Drama actors and K-Pop idols. And when she is competing, the entire nation is behind her and cheering for her.
Kim is a sports icon in her country. In some popular K-Drama series, her name is easily mentioned when the dialogue is about the country’s best athletes. She even appeared in variety shows with the country’s top celebrities. In 2021, when she competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, BTS’ RM mentioned Kim’s name to express support for the team. If that is not fame, we do not know what is.
What is most impressive is that she stays humble despite her incredible success. This event, where Kim put her fans first before anything else, is a testament that she is the gold standard of volleyball stars.
