Male, Maldives, September 11, 2024 – The highly-anticipated CAVA Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup concluded with a series of intense and exciting matches, leaving volleyball fans on the edge of their seats. The final day saw exceptional performances from all teams, culminating in a dramatic showdown between hosts Maldives and Kyrgyzstan.

The day began with a hard-fought battle between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the third-place playoff.

Afghanistan showed remarkable improvement throughout the tournament, but Tajikistan ultimately secured a dramatic 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18) victory in one hour and 38 minutes.

Aqnazarova led Tajikistan’s charge with 17 points, while Afghanistan’s Roghayeh Mohammadi topped the match’s scoring charts with 20 points. Tajikistan finished the tournament in third place, with Afghanistan in fourth position.
The grand finale featured an epic clash between Maldives and Kyrgyzstan. These two teams had met earlier in the pool stage, where Kyrgyzstan emerged victorious with a convincing 3-0 win.
This time, the stakes were higher, and the intensity of the match was felt by the home crowd, including the Maldives’ Vice President, Mr Hussain Mohamed Latheef, who presided over the final showdown as the chief guest.
Kyrgyzstan remained strong offensively to establish an early lead, winning the first set 25-17. Maldives fought back hard and responded fiercely in the second set, battling to a narrow 26-24 victory, leveling the match at 1-1.
The third set saw Kyrgyzstan pull ahead once again with a 25-18 win, bringing the match to 2-1.
The fourth set was a gripping contest, with both teams exchanging points and leaving the fans breathless. Maldives held their nerves to claim a 25-22 win, forcing a decisive fifth set.
In the end, Kyrgyzstan’s resilience shone through as they powered to a 15-9 victory in the decider, taking the match 3-2 and securing the title in the tournament’s only tie-breaker.
The final was a fitting conclusion to a tournament filled with passion, skill, and thrilling competition. CAVA (Central Asian Volleyball Association) and VAM (Volleyball Association of Maldives) President Mr Mohamed Latheef, himself AVC Executive Vice President and AVC Zonal Executive Vice President representing Central Zone, along with other VIP dignitaries, presented the awards to the outstanding players of the tournament.
