- The approved projects span 199 National Federations
- At the core of the FIVB is transparency and a dedication to reinvesting the funds generated from the sport back into the sport
- Of course, those countries not receiving support are some of the biggest Federations such as Brazil, China, Japan, Italy, Poland and others
The FIVB is thrilled to announce the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development Programme has reached a significant milestone as it has approved 1075 projects, across 199 National Federations (NFs), since its inception in 2017 with the total investment of over CHF 30 million.
A total of 263 projects have been approved through the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), 269 through the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), 332 through the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), 138 through the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) and 73 through the Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV).
The approved projects encompass a wide range of initiatives from offering coaching, providing equipment and education to running knowledge transfer programmes all with the aim to raise the level of national teams across the world and support their growth.
Through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programme, several national teams have experienced remarkable accomplishments, achieving podium finishes and garnering global recognition on the international stage. These achievements are recorded in the FIVB brochure Serving Volleyball: Return on Investment which can be found here.
Reaching 1075 approved projects is a testament to the programme’s commitment to empowering athletes, national teams and NFs in every corner of the world to fulfil their potential.
At the core of the FIVB is transparency and a dedication to reinvesting the funds generated from the sport back into the sport. The FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programme is a clear demonstration of this commitment, with significant resources channelled directly into initiatives that foster the sports’ growth and development. In 2023, 53% of the FIVB’s revenues were reinvested into the sport through prize money and Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes. This percentage is poised to grow even more in the coming years, thanks to the strong financial foundation established by the Federation.
Adding to the FIVB’s transparency is the online data visualisation tool that details the far-reaching impact of over the CHF 30 million invested into the FIVB Empowerment Programme. This dashboard can be accessed here.
Speaking about this achievement, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said: “I am thrilled to witness the approval of 1075 projects through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes across almost 200 National Federations. Of course, those countries not receiving support are some of the biggest Federations such as Brazil, China, Japan, Italy, Poland and others.
“These numbers exemplify our Federation’s commitment to innovation and the creation of opportunities, a cornerstone of my presidency. We remain dedicated to fostering the growth and development of volleyball worldwide, and devoted to supporting our National Federations to achieve their goals. There is no doubt that our sport continues to inspire and empower individuals across the globe.”
Volleyball Empowerment and Development 2024/2025
As the FIVB celebrates this milestone, it remains committed to supporting and empowering volleyball teams worldwide. With the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development 2023 window IV closing on 14 July 2024, the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development 2024 will run from 15 July to 31 December 2024.
During the Volleyball Empowerment and Development 2024 cycle, NFs are welcome to submit new strong applications in English, French or Spanish for all three support types: coach support for the development of national teams, volleyball equipment and knowledge transfer programmes. As usual, multiple applications can be submitted by each NF.
New projects submitted between 15 July and 31 December 2024 will be evaluated in January 2025, with approved projects starting from February 2025 onwards.
With the continued collaboration of NFs and partners, the future of volleyball looks brighter than ever!
