MALDIVES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 CONCLUDES WITH DHIVEHI SIFAINGE CLUB DEFENDING THEIR TITLE

Malé, Maldives, January 11, 2025 – Dhivehi Sifainge Club stamped their authority over the National Volleyball Championship 2024, organized by the Volleyball Association of Maldives following their comeback 3-1 win against Club HDC in the Friday’s final showdown at the Social Center Indoor Hall.

The tournament, which began on January 5 and featured top four teams from the National Volleyball League comprising Club HDC (HDC), Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC), Sports Club City (SCC) and Blues for Volleyball (BFV) to vie for top honour, followed a single round-robin format, with the top four teams progressing to the semifinals. In the semis, the second-ranked team faced the third-ranked team, while the top-ranked team awaited the winners in the finals.

The final match between DSC and HDC started at 8:30pm local time and was graced by the Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, as the chief guest. 

HDC began strongly, winning the first set 25-17, aided by their star foreign players, Mubashar Raza from Pakistan and Nurmukhammed Toktoev from Kyrgyzstan, but DSC staged a remarkable comeback, taking the next three sets 25-21, 25-16, and 25-23 to secure a 3-1 victory and the championship trophy.

DSC’s Hussain Razzan delivered a stellar performance, consistently breaking through HDC’s blocks and earning the title of Man of the Match. Foreign import Muhammad Waqar and Muhammad Hamad also contributed significantly to DSC’s victory, scoring crucial points.

This championship has marked a consecutive victory for DSC, as they successfully defended their title from the previous year. The teams qualified for the tournament through the National Volleyball League 2024, which ranked HDC first, followed by DSC, SCC, BFV, and Maldives Police Club (PLC), with PLC narrowly missing qualification.

This thrilling championship showcased the competitive spirit of Maldivian volleyball, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next season.
