MATCHUPS REVEALED FOR ASIAN MEN’S U16 CHAMPIONSHIP THAILAND 2025 IN NAKHON PATHOM AND RATCHABURI

Hosts Uzbekistan take on Iran in the final showdown of the previous edition two years ago in Tashkent

Bangkok, Thailand, June 30, 2025 – The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) has officially released the match schedule for the Asian Men’s U16 Volleyball Championship Thailand 2025, which will be held in Nakhon Pathom and co-host city Ratchaburi from July 12 to 19, 2025. Sixteen national teams from across Asia will compete for continental glory, with the tournament also serving as the qualification pathway for the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship.

The top four teams from this edition will earn qualification to the 2026 Boys’ U17 World Championship, which will feature 24 teams, an expansion from the inaugural edition held in 2024 in Sofia, Bulgaria, which included 16 teams.

From 2026 onwards, the U17 category will align with the U19 and U21 categories in terms of structure, further enhancing global opportunities for youth development across all five continental confederations.

A total of 16 teams have confirmed their participation in the second edition of the Asian Men’s U16 Championship in Thailand. The preliminary pool composition is as follows:

 • Pool A: Thailand (hosts), Australia, China and India

 • Pool B: Iran (defending champions), Kazakhstan, Hong Kong China and Indonesia

 • Pool C: Uzbekistan (2023 silver medallists), Japan, Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates

 • Pool D: Chinese Taipei (2023 bronze medallists), Pakistan, Korea and Saudi Arabia

The preliminary round will be contested in a pool round-robin format from July 12–14. July 15 is designated as a rest and recovery day.

Following the preliminary stage, the top two teams from each pool will advance to the 1st–8th Classification Round, with teams from Pools A and C competing in Pool E, while those from Pools B and D will play in Pool F.

Teams finishing third and fourth in each pool will proceed to the 9th–16th Classification Round, with teams from Pools A and C forming Pool G, and those from Pools B and D forming Pool H.

The top two teams from Pools E and F will contest the semifinals, while the 3rd and 4th placed teams will battle for positions 5th–8th. Likewise, teams finishing first and second in Pools G and H will vie for 9th–12th places, while 3rd and 4th will compete in the 13th–16th playoff. Final classification matches, awards presentation and the closing ceremony will be held on July 19.

According to the opening day fixtures, Kazakhstan will take on Hong Kong, China in the first Pool B match at 10am local time at the Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium, followed by another Pool B encounter between title-holders Iran and Indonesia at 12.30pm. The remaining two matches see Australia challenge China in Pool A at 3pm and hosts Thailand face off against India at 5.30pm.

On the same day at the Ratchaburi Gymnasium in Ratchaburi Province, approximately 46km by car from Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium, Chinese Taipei will meet Saudi Arabia in Pool D at 10am, with Pakistan fighting it out with Korea at 12.30pm. In Pool C, Uzbekistan will play the UAE at 3pm and Japan will face Mongolia at 5.30pm.

In the inaugural edition held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2023, Iran captured the historic title with a 3-1 victory over the hosts in the final showdown. Chinese Taipei secured the bronze medal after a dramatic 3-2 triumph over Pakistan.

Iran, Pakistan and Chinese Taipei qualified for the 2024 Boys’ U17 World Championship in Bulgarian capital city Sofia. Italy were crowned the historic world champions, with Argentina and Chinese Taipei in second and third places respectively.

The Asian Men’s U16 Championship Thailand 2025 promises another thrilling chapter in Asia’s youth volleyball journey, with rising talents set to showcase their potential on the continental stage.
