Manama, Bahrain, May 19, 2023 – Suntory Sunbirds continued their unbeaten streak after convincing straight-set 27-25, 25-15, 25-18 win against Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi from Indonesia to top Pool E of the 2023 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in their quarterfinals at Isa Bin Rashed Hall 1 on Friday.
Japan’s Suntory Sunbirds, which picked up silver medal at the previous edition in Iran last year, mounted a strong challenge in their second quarterfinal match against Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi in the first set and their determined efforts were fruitful as the Indonesian game was error-filled.
Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi tried hard to maintain their poise, but found the rivals too hot to handle, narrowly going down in the hard-fought set 25-27.
The fired-up Japanese remained irresistible in the next two sets as they performed superbly with impenetrable defence, solid blocks and powerful attacks to capture both sets 25-15, 25-18 and match.
Dmitriy Muserskiy chipped in with 15 points for Suntory Sunbirds including 12 attacks and 5 blocks, while Daudi Okello led Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi with 14 points.
