Pasig City, Philippines, April 21, 2025 – Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC triumuphed in Pool D of the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League, after a 3-0 match (25-10, 25-16, 25-12) against Australia’s Queensland Pirates on Monday afternoon at the PhilSports Arena.
Marlee Anyse Smith (13 points) and Evengelia Chantava (12 points) posted double-digit figures for the Thai club’s first victory in the competition.
The Thai club setter Sirima Manakij showed a great deal of variety in offense, activating Marlee, Chantava, and Sasipaporn Janthawisut on attack.
Meanwhile, Queensland Pirates struggled to quickly find and settle into their rhythm. They had limited runs against their opponents, and could only manage to post a few attacks in the opening set.
The Australian side tried to mark the opponents’ hitters and lined up their blocks in the second set. They also enabled Holly Mallet by the wing and Scarlett Rudder with the middle attack.
Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC quickly reverted to their usual form, showing range and unpredictability in their plays. They managed to throw off their opponents’ momentum to take solid two-set advantage.
By the third set, the Thai club looked stronger than ever, scoring from each possible corner of the court, through attack, block and service aces. Coach Somchai Donpraiyod had the luxury of resting her starters while still having a strong line-up to seal the straight-sets win on Monday afternoon.
Nakhon Ratchasima will look to capture their second victory as they face PLDT High Speed Hitters on Tuesday at 16:00 Philippine Time. Queensland Pirates will head to a rest day to await their fate in the next phase of the competition.
