Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 24, 2024 – Hosts Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC defeated Vietnam’s Duc Giang Chemical 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16) in the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship at Chartchai Hall.
The 2021 runners-up completed play in Pool A on Tuesday evening with two wins in their card.
Katarina Pilepic led all scorers on the board, charting a total of 24 points for the hosts, while Tran Thi Bich Thuy posted 22 points in the defeat.
Pilepic provided the spark plug for the Thai club, showing much consistency in her contribution throughout the match. Onuma Sittirak and Sasipapron Janthawisut also contributed with double-digit figures, as they exploded in key, nearly cinematic moments.
Tran Thi Bich Thuy and Tran Tu Linh led the offense for Duc Giang Chemical, as they staged a comeback in the second set. They combined their efforts in both block and attack.
Elena Samoilenko proved to be a good addition to the Vietnam club roster, as she played in her first match in the competition. She added height to the frontline, and augmented the attack options for the setter.
The same could likewise be said about Benoit Markenzie, who clocked in more quality minutes for the home team. She scored a match high 16 points, and along with Pilepic, she helped cover the frontline to help limit their opponents’ attacks.
Teams now await the results of the other matches in the Preliminary Phase to be completed Tuesday evening, in order to determine respective match-ups in the Quarterfinals.
