NEPAL POLICE CLUB, HUMO VC TO BATTLE IT OUT IN MUCH-ANTICIPATED FINAL SHOWDOWN OF 2024 CAVA WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP IN MALDIVES

Male, Maldives, September 20, 2024 – The stage is set for an exhilarating final of the 2024 CAVA Women’s Volleyball Club Championship at Social Center Indoor Hall here, as Nepal Police Club and Humo VC from Uzbekistan will renew their rivalry in the Saturday’s showdown after dominating the round-robin preliminaries in hectic five days.  

Nepal Police Club booked their spot in the final with a hard-fought 3-1 (25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21) against the host team, Maldives Police Club.

Over 1,000 Nepali fans packed the stands, creating an electric atmosphere against the 500-strong Maldivian crowd. Both teams showed remarkable determination, but it was Nepal Police Club that ultimately clinched the win after an intense battle.

Bhandari Usha delivered 16 points from 12 attacks, 2 blocks and 2 aces for Nepal Police Club, while Chand Punam and Regmi Sumitra added 13 and 10 points respectively. Rasulbek Kyzy Roza led Maldives Police Club scored a match-high 20 points from 16 kills and team-leading 4 aces.

Nepal Police Club dominated the blocking game, getting 10 stuffs to Maldives Police Club’s 4, and also led in kills (49 to 33). Both teams produced great serves to score similar 9 points apiece, but Maldives Police Club benefitted from more opponent errors (33 to 30).

In another standout match of the day, Humo VC delivered a dominant 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-16) victory against Sri Lanka Air Force. Despite Air Force’s efforts, a series of costly unforced errors allowed the Uzbek team to control the game from start to finish.

Askaroma Zarnigora led the Humo VC’s offense with 12 points including 10 attacks from 25 attempts, while Boymizaeva Dilnoza and Olimova Malikabonu kept good company to contribute 11 and 8 points respectively.

Humo VC limited the Sri Lanka Air Force’s offense to the point that no rivals’ player got to reach double digits in scoring against them. Priyamali Manish Hewage bagged 8 points, all in attack, on the team’s loss.

Meanwhile, Club Wamco from the Maldives triumphed over VC Diamed from Tajikistan with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20) victory. Though VC Diamed showed signs of improvement, they remained winless in the tournament.

Star spiker Kuttika Kaewpin was the Club Waco’s most productive player to register18 points, all in attack. Aitbekova Aiturgan and team captain Majidha Aishath added 11 and 9 points respectively. Khurshedodva Anisa led VC Diamed with 9 points from 6 attacks and 3 aces.

At the completion of the five-day, round-robin preliminaries on Friday, Nepal Police Club finished atop the six-team standing with 14 points from five wins in a row, followed by Humo VC from Uzbekistan with 12 points from four wins against one loss.

Club Wamco finished third place with 10 points from three wins against two losses. Sri Lanka Air Force had 6 points from two wins against three losses to come in fourth place.

Maldives Police Club were placed in fifth position with three points from one win against four losses. Winless VC Diamed from Tajikistan finished on the bottom sixth with no point awarded.

As the tournament heads into its final day on Saturday, anticipation is building for the much-awaited final showdown between Nepal Police Club and Humo VC. Club Wamco will face off against Sri Lanka Air Force in the third place playoff to vie for bronze medal, while Maldives Police Club and VC Diamed will fight it out for the fifth position.

With everything on the line, fans eagerly await the final match, which promises to be a thrilling contest and where the new CAVA Women’s Club champions will be crowned.
