Battambang, Cambodia, April 4, 2019 – USA sister tandem Audrey and Nicole Nourse advanced to the main draw with two straight-set wins in the qualification round of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Battambang 1-star on Thursday.
The Nourse twins first beat Kazakhstan’s Kristina Zhuk and Dana Rubilko in a 34-minute long match. They won the first set 21-16 and earned match victory with a strong 21-8 second set finish.
In their second match, the twin tandem defeated Israel’s Noy Chorin and Noga Maor 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) in 31 minutes.
The Nourse twins have advanced to the main draw for the third straight time since they finished in 13th place at the Montpellier 1-star and placed fifth at the Visakhapatnam 1-star.
Latvia’s Varvara Brailko and Anete Namike, USA’s Lara Dykstra and Cassie House, Russia’s Aleksandra Ganenko and Anastasiia Frolova all earned first round byes before winning their respective second round matches in straight sets.
Brailko and Namike beat Romania’s Beata Vaida and Ioana-Alexandra Ordean 2-0 (21-17, 21-11), while Dykstra and House routed Malaysia’s Shu Woon Joo and Tasha Mae 2-0 (21-7, 21-13).
Ganenko and Frolova battled their compatriots Ekaterina Filina and Ekaterina Zhazhigina in a tough two-set encounter. After succeeding 21-18 win in the first set, Ganenko and Frolova edged their compatriots with just a two-point margin at 28-26 to advance to the next round.
