ONE WEEK TO GO: FINAL COUNTDOWN BEGINS FOR FIRST EVER WORLD VOLLEYBALL DAY!

A global celebration of volleyball is set to unite the world on 7 July 2025

The countdown has begun! With just one week to go, the global volleyball community is gearing up for a momentous occasion – the very first World Volleyball Day, set to take place on 7 July 2025

It’s all systems go as players, fans, clubs, partners and stakeholders from around the world rally together to celebrate the sport that unites hundreds of millions of people. Whether you are on the beach, the court, a park or at home, this is your moment to grab a volleyball, gather your friends and be part of volleyball history.

Why 7 July?

World Volleyball Day commemorates the first public demonstration of the sport by William G. Morgan in 1895. Originally called “Mintonette,” volleyball was played exclusively at the Holyoke YMCA until that historic day when Morgan brought two teams to Springfield College (then the YMCA Training School) to showcase the game to a group of physical directors. This pivotal moment marked the first public demonstration of the game and set the stage for its spread beyond Holyoke.

Now, 130 years later, 2025 marks the beginning of a new global tradition – an annual celebration that will shine a spotlight on volleyball’s power to bring people together.

How can you get involved?

Everyone is invited to take part! From grassroots players to elite athletes, from passionate fans to families at home – this day is for everyone.

In El Salvador, one player shared how volleyball helped him believe in himself after losing part of his foot as a child. Despite the odds, the sport gave him strength, confidence and, in his words, “the ability to fly.”
