Argentina triumphed victorious in the first 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship match that came to a completion on opening day in Thailand. In a Pool D encounter in Nakhon Ratchasima on Friday, they came back from a set down to upset Czechia in four.
The South American team took advantage of the excessive unforced errors their European opponents committed during the game to snatch a 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-17, 26-24) win. In a dramatic ending of the game, Argentina came back from a 23-21 deficit with a 5-1 run to take the fourth set and the match.

Five aces from Ndiaye help France start off with a win
France started their 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship campaign in Thailand with a win. In the opening Pool C fixture in Chiang Mai on Friday, they achieved a four-set victory over Puerto Rico.
51 years after their last appearance at a women’s World Championship, France crowned their return with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14) win over their NORCECA opponents, outplaying them on all scoring counts, except for the unforced errors.

Belgium block away in emphatic opener against Cuba
Belgium stormed the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Thailand with an emphatic win over Cuba. In Friday’s Pool B opener in Phuket, they completely outblocked their NORCECA opponents on the way to a straight-set victory.
Belgium delivered as many as 14 kill blocks against only two from their opponents to power their way through to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-11) victory, and that made the biggest difference in the match. The European side also outplayed Cuba in offense (42-34 in spike kills) and in precision (9-16 in unforced errors), while the serve brought in three points to each side.

Netherlands beat Sweden in Thailand 2025’s first five-set battle
Pool A action at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Thailand opened with the first five-setter of the tournament, with the Netherlands emerging victorious over rookies Sweden in the tie-breaker on Friday.
In this rollercoaster battle in Bangkok, the Netherlands spoiled Sweden’s World Championship debut with a 3-2 (25-27, 25-11, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9) victory, with the number of unforced errors making the biggest difference towards the outcome of the game. The Dutch made only 20 of those against 32 from their fellow Europeans. They also outplayed the opponents in offense and slightly in blocking.

Brazil start strong and sweep Greece in Chiang Mai
Pursuing their first FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship title, South American giants Brazil started their campaign in the 2025 edition of the tournament with a strong victory against Greece on Friday.
Playing at the Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre, the Brazilians were in control from start to finish and dominated the Europeans to produce a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16) win in their first match in the tournament and get a head start in Pool C.

Skinners lead USA to first World Championship victory
Rookies Slovenia fought hard, but volleyball powerhouse the United States managed to start their campaign at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship with a victory on Friday in Nakhon Ratchasima.
The Europeans competed for three sets, but the Americans counted on strong performances from the Skinner sisters Avery and Madison to triumph 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-22, 25-14) and secure their first victory in Pool D in Thailand.

Reigning Olympic champions Italy continue to be unstoppable and extended their impressive winning streak that started over a year ago on Friday, when they played their first match in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Phuket.
The FIVB World Ranking leaders used their experience and higher level of play to pick up their first victory in Pool B, overcoming World Championship first-timers Slovakia 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17) in their tournament debut.

Strong blocking propels Thailand to opening-match success
The first day of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship came to an end with a big celebration in Thailand’s capital Bangkok after the host country’s national team overcame Egypt to secure their first victory in the tournament.
The reigning Asian champions had moments of difficulty against the Africans, but counted on the support of the fans that packed the Huamark Indoor Stadium and a strong blocking performance to triumph 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 25-11) and celebrate their first victory in Pool A.
