Urmia, Iran, August 25, 2023 – Pakistan recovered from the first-set down to stun Indonesia in hard-fought five sets 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 15-12 in their Ranking 7-10 match in the 22nd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at Al-Ghadir Hall 1 on Friday.
Indonesia mixed the excellent offensive combination of spectacular spikes from Halim Farhan and scintillating blocks from Hendra Kurniawan to take the thrilling first set 25-19.
Pakistan marched on their good show in the second set. They put their acts together, hoping to make a comeback. They successfully turned things around to come up with quick attacks and solid defence for the hard-fought second set 25-22 win.
Indonesia’s great determination was handsomely rewarded in the next set, thanks to the solid blocks by Maluhammad Malizi. After claiming the close third set 25-23 in the hotly-contested battle, the Indonesians could not go on their spectacular attacks and effective blocks and went down in a one-sided battle 13-25 to force a tie-breaker.
Both teams came all-out in the decider, but Pakistan fared better to win the closely-contested set 15-12 and sea-saw match.
Pakistan will next battle it out with the winners between Thailand and Bahrain for the 7th place of the championship.
