PAST CHAMPIONS AND FUTURE STARS MEET IN 2024 ASIAN WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 21, 2024 – A blend of previous champions and up and coming clubs are set to chase the title of 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, as competition kicks off on Sunday.

Kuanysh VC from Kazakhstan and NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki from Japan lead the charge as 2022 Champions and 2016 Champions respectively. Host team Nakhon Ratchasima QminC, the 2021 vice-champions, and Saipa Iran, 2021 4th placers join the stellar list of club teams to compete at Chartchai Hall. 

Vietnam, to be represented in the 2024 edition by LP Bank Binh Ninh and Duc Giang Chemical, are expected to bring in tough competition. 

The Philippines are bringing in a younger selection with Monolith Skyrisers, while Hong Kong, China will be represented by Kwai Tsing. 

The eight participating teams converged on Saturday afternoon to meet with the AVC Control Committee and the International Referees for the General Technical Meeting. 

Later, participating teams and officials were treated to a welcome dinner to mark the Opening Ceremony of the championship. 

The evening’s guests were offered to sample culinary delights local to city lovingly called Korat, just 250 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. Entertainment from local dance troupes and performers also marked the Ceremony, showcasing the city’s trademark hospitality. 

AVC President Ramón Suzara conveyed his utmost gratitude for the hosts, and his message of encouragement for the teams.

“I would like to extend my appreciation to the Thailand Volleyball Association for the cooperation and voluntarily hosting this important event. I strongly believe that under the capability of local staff, the support of the Government and volleyball fans in Thailand, this event will run smoothly and remarkably,” Suzara said.

“For participating teams, this is the good opportunity to show your best performance to be the top two representatives of AVC National Federations to participate in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship coming December 2024,” he added. 

Matches commence on Sunday, September 22, with Pools each playing a single round-robin format until Tuesday, September 24. After a rest and recovery day, teams resume play for the Quarterfinals on Thursday, September 26, to set the stage for the Semifinals on Friday, September 27. Finals for 5th-8th places shall be played on Saturday, with the medal matches on Sunday, 29th of September. 

The AVC champions and vice-champions will qualify and compete alongside Carraro Imoco Conegliano (ITA), Allianz Vero Volley Milano (ITA), Gerdau Minas (BRA), Dentil Praia Clube (BRA), Zamalek SC (EGY) and the host team from China, in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, scheduled from December 16-22, 2024.
