A ceremonial serve, Olympic-inspired gift and birthday tribute mark historic start of tournament in Pasay City
The FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship 2025 officially began in Pasay City, Philippines today with a spectacular opening ceremony, marked by the presence of the President of the Philippines, His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, joined by First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and their sons Joseph Simon and William Vincent, who is co-chairperson of the competition’s Local Organising Committee (LOC).
President Marcos took part in the ceremonial serve, symbolically marking the start of the history-making competition. During his attendance at the event, President Marcos was also presented with a limited edition poster from the FIVB, centered around the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a gift to celebrate the global nature of the sport.
Further, in a gesture recognising President Marcos’ birthday tomorrow, the FIVB President, Fabio Azevedo, also presented him with a birthday card.
The competition itself is historic, as it is the first time Southeast Asia has hosted the Men’s Volleyball World Championship. Additionally, the tournament brings together 32 national teams for the first time, competing over 17 days in some of Manila’s top venues, including the Mall of Asia Arena and the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With the world’s best athletes set to compete, the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship 2025 promises to provide some unforgettable moments, and a true celebration of the sport.
