The President of Philippine National Volleyball Federation becomes the 9th AVC President and 2nd from the Philippines
Bangkok, Thailand, August 30, 2024 – Mr Ramon Suzara was elected the new AVC President after receiving 48 out of 63 including 20 proxies who cast their votes in the election proceedings during the 25th AVC Elective General Assembly at The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel Bangkok on Friday morning.
After having served as Chairman of the AVC Development and Marketing Committee between 1992-2020, a familiar face in the Asian volleyball scene is now back to head the continent’s volleyball governing-body for a four-year term. The 64-year-old Ramon, the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Commission Secretary and President of Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), becomes the 9th AVC President and the second from the Philippines after Mr Nemesio Yabut SR (1976-1979).
Mr Ramon got started in the sport of volleyball many years ago when he represented the State University in various leagues. He was a setter back in the day and later continued to work as a Physical Education teacher in a secondary school.
Later on, his career led him to serve as an official in the Sports Ministry of the Philippines, the Philippine Sports Commission. Some of the highlights of his career also include serving as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Philippines Southeast Asian Games (SEA) Organising Committee for the 30th edition of the SEA Games.
In volleyball with the FIVB, he took on various roles such as Event Director, Technical Delegate, and Control Committee President.
“This is just the beginning, we must be united. As I said many times that we need each equally to work in AVC so we can compete with Europe, Norceca and South America. So, it’s important for all of us to work together and united for the future of AVC. Let’s change the landscape of AVC for the next four years,” Ramon was quoted as saying after he was elected the new AVC President.
“Thank you to all of you. Thank you, President Ary Graca, President Mrs Rita Subowo, all Members and staff of AVC here. I would like to thank TVA President Mr Somporn and Mr Shanrit and all TVA staff for hosting an excellent congress. I think it’s one of the best of AVC.”
