Pavlova & Helland-Hansen and Pospisilova & Mokra complete the Busan Gwangalli Futures podium in Korea
Japan’s Ren Matsumoto & Non Matsumoto topped the podium at the women’s Busan Gwangalli Futures stop on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour on Sunday to register their second back-to-back gold on the Tour, after their triumph at the Qidong Futures in June. Norway’s Nina Pavlova & Sunniva Helland-Hansen took silver, while Czechia’s Anna Pospisilova & Daniela Mokra claimed bronze to complete the podium in Korea.
Bracket leaders Ren & Non’s prefect run of four consecutive straight-set victories in Busan Gwangalli was crowned with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) sweep of their semifinal match against sixth-seeded Czechs Anna Pospisilova & Daniela Mokra. The first set of the gold medal showdown against Nina Pavlova & Sunniva Helland-Hansen was the only one the Japanese duo lost throughout the tournament. They battled their way back to a 2-1 (17-21, 21-9, 15-11) victory and their second gold on the Beach Pro Tour. In addition, Ren & Non have so far collected two silver medals on the Tour.

The seventh-seeded Norwegians took the detour route to the final after losing their pool winners’ match. In the semis, Pavlova & Helland-Hansen managed a 2-0 (21-15, 22-20) win over fifth-seeded Majabelle Lawac & Sherysyn Toko of Vanuatu. This way they secured the pair’s first ever Beach Pro Tour medal at Pavlova’s only second appearance on the Tour. For the more experienced Helland-Hansen, it was also the first hardware on her Beach Pro Tour journey.
In the third-place match, Pospisilova & Mokra put together a hard-fought 2-1 (21-16, 18-21, 16-14) victory over Lawac & Toko to celebrate bronze and their first Beach Pro Tour podium as a pair.
25 women’s teams representing nine different countries took part in the Busan Gwangalli Futures. The next Futures events will take place in Bujumbura, Burundi from August 20 to 23 and in Brno, Czechia from August 21 to 24.
