Bangkok, Thailand, April 12, 2023 – Nepal will host the CAVA (Central Asian Volleyball Association) Women’s Challenge Cup 2023 at National Sports Council Tripureshwor in Kathmandu between May 22 and 28, with eight teams testing their mettle to vie for top honor in the eight-day event.
According to the Tuesday’s results of the drawing of lots, conducted online by CAVA Events and Referees Committee for Volleyball, hosts Nepal joined Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh and India in Pool A, with Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Kazakhstan in Pool B.
The participating teams will play the pool round-robin preliminaries. Only top two teams from each pool advance to the semifinals, while the lower-ranked four teams will be relegated to the classification round for 5th-8th places.
During the online gathering on Tuesday, CAVA President Mr Mohamed Latheef of Maldives, who chaired the meeting, addressed the participants by congratulating and wishing well to all participating teams. He urged all teams to uphold the values of FIVB and use the opportunity to build friendship among athletes.
In his speech, Mr Latheef said that the tournament has featured the highest number of participating teams and thanked all National Federations for their hard work and commitment in developing volleyball in the Zone.
The CAVA President encouraged all teams by saying, “You must not only have competitiveness but ability regardless of the circumstance you face, to never quit.” recalling the famous quote from Abby Wambach, the American soccer player.
Mr Latheef praised the support from the Government of Nepal to the Nepal Volleyball Association and thanked the NVA President Mr Jitendra Bahadur Chand for hosting the tournament.
CAVA Secretary General Mr Kylych Sarbaghyshev of Kyrgyzstan appreciated the hard work of all National Federations to make CAVA a successful organization. He also thanked the NVA President Mr Jitendra.
Mr Jitendra highlighted the great support received from the Government of Nepal and Nepal National Olympic Committee for this important competition. And also, he mentioned that the Government of Nepal and people of Nepal are excited to welcome the players and officials and assured that all the dignitaries will receive the best hospitality while staying there.
In this occasion, Chairman of CAVA Events and Referees Committee for Volleyball Mr Masoud Yazdanpanah from the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF) explained about the competition format and competition regulations.
Aside from CAVA President Mr Mohamed Latheef, CAVA Secretary General Mr Kylych and Chairman of CAVA Events and Referees Committee for Volleyball Mr Masoud, members of CAVA Events and Referees Committee for Volleyball also attended the Tuesday’s online meeting.
