The National Volleyball Federation also received a special citation on PSA Awards Night
The Filipino beach volleyball team of Cherry Ann Rondina (Sisi) and Jovelyn Gonzaga were honoured with a major award at a memorable gala, as the annual Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night was held on Monday. The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) also received a special citation.
Rondina & Gonzaga beat the odds at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures event in Subic Bay in December. Seeded 12th in the main draw, the home pair went through the tournament undefeated to top the podium and earn their first medal. While Rondina had already appeared on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour a couple of times in 2018 and 2019, it was the first ever world-level competition for Gonzaga.
The Filipino beach stars also accompanied PNVF President Ramon Suzara onto the stage. On behalf of the National Federation, he received a special citation “for showing the Philippine brand of hospitality by successfully hosting international events, most notably the Quezon City leg of the Volleyball Nations League at Smart Araneta Coliseum and the 2022 Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup at PhilSports Arena.”
