Kathmandu, Nepal, December 7, 2024 – The 2024 CAVA Men’s Club Volleyball Championship kicked off on Saturday at the iconic Tripureswor Hall in Kathmandu. The tournament featured five teams from across the region: Help Nepal Sports Club (Nepal), Gandaki Pradesh (Nepal), Calicut Heroes (India), Iran Club and Club HDC (Maldives) to vie for the historic CAVA Men’s Club title.
The grand opening ceremony, held on the same day, was inaugurated by Mr Teju Lal Chaudhary, Minister of Youth and Sports.
Distinguished guests attending the ceremony included Mr Tanka Lal Ghising, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, Mr Jitendra Bahadur Chand, President of the Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA), representatives of the tournament sponsors, and officials from Calicut Heroes, India.
The opening day drew an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 2,500 spectators, creating an electric atmosphere.
Thrilling Opening Matches
The championship began with a nail-biting match between Help Nepal Sports Club (HNC) of Nepal and Calicut Heroes (CAH) from India.
HNC secured a hard-fought victory with a dramatic 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-10) win.
Outside hitter Mubashar Reza and fellow outside hitter Mazhar Ali, both imported from Pakistan, were the two major forces of HNC, with the former leading the charge with 21 points including 20 attacks and the latter bagging another 20 points from 19 attacks and one ace for the team’s triumph. Opposite Angamuthu led CAH with 12 points, all from attacks.
In the second match, Gandaki Pradesh (GND) of Nepal faced Club HDC (HDC) from the Maldives. Club HDC emerged victorious in another thrilling clash with an epic tiebreak win 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 30-28, 15-13.
Outside hitter Chirag from India delivered 12 points for HDC, while outside hitter Sahil Kumar from India scored 13 points on the GND’s loss.
Both matches captivated the audience with their intensity and skill, with live streaming available on the CAVA YouTube Channel for fans worldwide.
Nepal Volleyball Association’s Growing Legacy
This is the second major CAVA event hosted by the Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) this year. Earlier, NVA successfully organized the CAVA Women’s Nations League Volleyball Championship from August 1-7, 2024, further cementing Nepal’s role as a hub for volleyball in the region.
