FIVB President welcomes FIH President and delegations from Kenya and Chile
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° recently met with delegations from Kenya and Chile, in addition to the Indian Olympic Association President (IOA), International Hockey Federation (FIH) President and IOC Member, Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 volleyball and beach volleyball venues.
For the past week, Shiokaze Park and the Ariake Arena have been graced by incredible sports action while welcoming a number of key guests who are committed to the development of sports, including volleyball and beach volleyball in their respective countries.
In particular, the FIVB President met with the Sports Minister of Chile, Ms Cecilia Perez Jara, to discuss the growing strength of beach volleyball in the country. Chile’s best beach volleyball pair, cousins Marco and Esteban Grimalt, have taken the South American nation to new grounds in the sport, accomplishing incredible results at the international level. As such, how their achievements could be leveraged to continue pushing the sport forward in Chile was also explored.

In addition, National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) President and IOC Member Paul Tergat visited both the Ariake Arena and Shiokaze Park. As former athletes, Mr Tergat and the FIVB President considered how the values of sport such as teamwork, respect, integrity and professionalism are integral within all aspects of life.

Kenya Volleyball Federation President Waithaka Kioni and IOC Honorary Member Kipchoge Keino also visited both venues with Mr Tergat. Kenya’s women’s teams are participating in both the volleyball and beach volleyball Olympic competitions, showcasing the country’s talent and passion for both sports. The FIVB President, Mr Tergat, Mr Kioni and Mr Keino all discussed the success of the 90-day Volleyball Empowerment high performance pilot project with the Kenya women’s national volleyball team.

Meanwhile, the FIVB President welcomed IOC Member and IOA and FIH President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra to Shiokaze Park to enjoy some beach volleyball action. They discussed their joy in seeing the world’s greatest athletes compete at Tokyo 2020, especially given the significant challenges of the past year.
