Tehran, Iran, August 20, 2022 – Terrific Kush Singh’s 22 points including 17 attacks in scintillating 25-19, 25-14, 25-27, 25-23 victory over Chinese Taipei helped the Indians secure semifinal berth in the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Federation Hall here on Saturday.
With two wins from the pool preliminaries, India were riding the crest of confidence wave in this highly-anticipated clash of the quarterfinals against Chinese Taipei.
India secured a spot in the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship. At the last year’s world meet in Iran, India, through the FIVB World Ranking, had stood a chance to test their mettle against the world’s best teams. The Indians finished 10th in the 2021 Boys’ U19 World Championship in Iran.
India are due to take on the winners of the later match between Iran and Thailand in the Sunday’s semifinals, while Chinese Taipei will play the losers of that match in the 5th-8th playoffs.
“Today, it was a very good game. We already proved that we are not underdogs any team can underestimate in this championship. We have also been challenged at some moments. I think Iran are an experienced team. For our Sunday’s match, I have to see which team will come up between Thailand and Iran. We are very happy that after many years, we have qualified for the World Championship through our performance,” commented India’s captain, Kartik Sharma after the match.
