Four major events scheduled in February and March to kick off for 2023/2024 season.
Snow volleyball – the youngest and coolest version of volleyball – will return in early 2023 with four major events due to take place in conjunction with the FIVB World Tour and CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2023.
Türkiye and Austria will welcome snow volleyball teams from across the globe for four action-packed weekends where players and fans will enjoy their own share of fun.
As many as three straight events will be taking place in Türkiye, as the season gets underway in Kahramanmaras with the first World Tour stop running from February 24-26. Snow volleyball will return to the Turkish ski resort after the successful premiere was delivered there in February 2022 and saw the European Tour start with a competition featuring an impressive number of teams from across Europe and further afield – namely from Canada and Iran.
After the opening stop in Kahramanmaras, the snow volleyball season will continue in Sivas, one of the oldest and most important cities in central Anatolia, at the iconic Yildiz Mountain Ski Resort – where the Turkish Snow Volleyball national championships took place in early 2022. Sivas will first welcome a European Tour stop from March 3-5 and a World Tour event a week later (March 10-12), thus further cementing the popularity of the sport in Türkiye. Turkish teams have been a major force to reckon with since the early days of international snow volleyball competition. But the home favourites can expect stiff competition from across the globe as more and more nations show their interest in developing snow volleyball and players with a very diverse background test their ability on the snow.
Wagrain in Austria, the real ‘cradle’ of snow volleyball, where the sport was born, will welcome the fourth and last international event confirmed at this stage for the 2023 season. The list of snow volleyball competitions organised in the Austrian Alps is almost endless – and it includes the inaugural European Championships held in 2018 as well as the very first, historic World Tour event held at the same venue in early 2019. The European Tour stop in Wagrain will run from March 24 to 26. It is very fitting that the season will reach its climax and celebrate its finale at the very same place where the first snow volleyball competitions took place some 15 years ago.
The FIVB and the CEV continue to liaise with National Federations and promoters interested in growing the sport and any addition to the current calendar will be shared in due course. The goal of FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour is to visit each continent in its snow season in 2023/2024. For now, snow volleyball players and fans can start counting the days to the season’s opener and get ready to enjoy the unique ambiance that goes with snow volleyball and prepare to follow the action online as well!
